Raindrops on roses and whiskers on gerbils

I’ve always loved Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘My Favourite Things’ from the Sound of Music but only truly appreciated the line ‘raindrops on roses’ when I started taking photographs every day and realised that on a rainy day in summer this is one of the most beautiful shots you can capture.

Yesterday I didn’t manage a proper walk anywhere, so this shot was taken in the garden in between showers. My favourite raindrop is the one at the top left silhouetted against the black. As we have gerbils and not kittens we always jokingly sing “raindrops on roses and whiskers on gerbils”, so here is a cute photo of our gerbil Dusty and his fine whiskers.4. Spending time watching our furbabies leap about and do cute things can also be very soothing to an anxious soul. Dusty spends a lot of time perched on a bridge watching us back – we wonder whether he finds us as entertaining!
